  • 4) Sunday, October 18th - Visit to Masorti Institutions in Jerusalem: Schechter/TALI, Fuchsberg/Conservative Yeshiva, and Masorti Movement/Kehila. (This is a visit aimed to give you an in depth exposure to the primary institutions of Masorti Judaism that are the key beneficiaries of the financial "stream" funding provided by the Jewish Agency for which we lobby so strenuously. We will begin the day at 8:30am with a bus pickup going to the TALI School in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem. Following presentations by the school principal, school rabbi, teachers, parents and others connected to TALI, we will break up into small groups to view classes in session to see how a modern non-coercive Judaism is taught. We will then drive back to the Fuchsberg Center for a welcome and short tour of the facility, followed by a study session at the Conservative Yeshiva along side of rabbinical students from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic and other Yeshiva students and lunch. We will then continue to the Masorti congregation "Ramot Zion" in the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem where we will be met by Rabbi Chaya Baker, spiritual leader of the kehila, Yizhar Hess, CEO of the Masorti Movement, and other leaders of the congregation and the movement. The day's program will end at 4:00pm with a return to our hotels and a couple of hours free time before the start of the MERCAZ Olami orientation meetings at the Fuchsberg Center at 7:30pm. The cost of the day, including bus and food, has not been set yet but should be between $20-$25 per person.)

  • 5) Sunday, October 18th - Visit to the Neve Hanna Children's Village in Kiryat Gat: (This is a visit aimed at Conservative Movement veterans who have already visited the Masorti institutions in Jerusalem and are looking to have a different kind of visit. As Janet Tobin is not only President of MERCAZ USA but also Co-Chair with her husband Irwin of the American Friends of Neve Hanna, she is inviting the delegation to leave Jerusalem and drive out to Kiryat Gat, a town about 75 minutes southwest of Jerusalem towards Ashkelon, which houses the Neve Hanna Children's Village, a residence and campus for children, 4-18 years old, who have been removed by the courts from troubled homes. The village has an official connection with Masorti Judaism through its rabbi, TALI studies and NOAM youth movement. The American Friends of Neve Hanna have graciously agreed to cover the costs of transportation and lunch for the participants in this trip. The exact times for departure and return to Jerusalem have not yet been set but will allow participants to get back to Jerusalem for a few hours of free time before the start of the MERCAZ Olami orientation meetings.)
