NOAM Barcelona Shabbaton

By Matias Szarfer

On Friday we joined some of the madrichim on a tour of Barcelona, eating in the kosher restaurant, walking along the streets of the city’s center and making a visit the Picasso Museum. After that, we joined with the Chanichim from Barcelona to welcome Shabbat with a very special Kabbalat Shabbat service lead by the Madrichim of Noam Barcelona. It was a powerful tefillah service, and the shul was so packed that people had to stand – there was a ton of energy in the air. I heard beautiful comments from our guests from Paris, saying it was the best Kabbalat Shabbat the had ever attended!his past weekend Barcelona’s new NOAM chapter received a visit from NOAM Paris. They arrived last Thursday and kicked off the weekend with a trip to the beach. We also had a great time staying together at the hostel.

On Shabbat day we toured around the old Jewish neighborhood of Barcelona with the kids from Barcelona along with those kids from Paris, and in the afternoon we visited Park Güell. We finished the day with a joint activity between the two NOAM groups.

It was a very productive weekend, and although the trip is over, it was the start of a very beautiful relation between our communities. We became very friendly with the French Madrichim, and our Chanichim also became very good friends with Chanichim from Paris. For members of the Paris chapter to who didn’t know each other as well before the trip, it provided an excellent opportunity to start strong relationships within the group and be able to help build up the Tnua there. It was so gratifying listening and receiving messages from the kids saying that it was one of the best weekends of their lives and how proud they were to be part of the Jewish People. Others wrote to say that they were inspired to become madrichim. Who can ask for anything more?
